The program is designed for those who wish to obtain broad-based and leading-edge skills in Information Technology and provides students with a strong theoretical foundation in all areas of IT. The courses give students insight into the application areas of all the subject materials that they study. The dual emphasis on a strong theoretical foundation and practical application, combined with extensive skill-set training, gives our students a broad array of expertise to draw on, enabling them to meet both the present and future needs of the IT industry.

Program Details

Admission and English Proficiency Requirements

Applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering or Computer Science, or a related field from a recognized university or tertiary institution. For English Proficiency Requirements, please refer to HKUST Fok Ying Tung Graduate School.

Program Fee

The nominal program fee for 2022/23 Fall intake for full-time study is HK$155,000 (paid in 2 installments) and part-time study is HK$126,000 (paid in 4 installments) respectively.  


Students are required to complete a total of 30 credits of coursework.  Subject to approval, students may take a maximum of 3 credits of courses from the Master of Science in Big Data Technology. All the courses are normally held on weekday evenings as well as Saturday mornings or afternoons at HKUST campus. For details, please refer to the Postgraduate Program Catalog and Course Catalog.

Continuing Education Fund (CEF) 

Some courses in the program have been included in the list of reimbursable courses under the Continuing Education Fund. The program (MSc in Information Technology) of these modules is recognized under the Qualifications Framework (QF Level [6]). After 1 April 2019, successful applicants who are HK citizens and are eligible for CEF may be reimbursed with a maximum sum of HK$20,000, upon successful completion of the two reimbursable courses with an attendance rate over 70% in each course. For details and updates of eligibility, application, and reimbursement procedures (in particular the reimbursement period from the date of application), please check the CEF Office  or 3142-2277 (24-hour enquiry hotline). 

Attention: Effective from 1 April 2019, there will be a series of enhancement measures related to CEF applied to all new, currently valid and closed accounts.


This program is a gateway for students to learn from our professors with diverse knowledge and research experience in the field gained from the top engineering institutions from around the world.
