MSc in Information Technology

Curriculum

Students are required to complete a total of 30 credits of coursework.  Subject to approval, students may take a maximum of 3 credits of courses from the Master of Science in Big Data Technology. All the courses are normally held on weekday evenings as well as Saturday mornings or afternoons at HKUST campus. For details, please refer to the Postgraduate Program Catalog and Course Catalog.

Admission and English Proficiency Requirements

Applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering or Computer Science, or a related field from a recognized university or tertiary institution. For English Proficiency Requirements, please refer to HKUST Fok Ying Tung Graduate School.

Program Fee

The nominal program fee for 2027/28 Fall intake for full-time study is HK$320,000 (paid in 2 installments) and part-time study is HK$260,000 (paid in 4 installments) respectively.

For 2027/28 Fall intake (September 2027)

Application for Credit Transfer - Holders of HKUSTx's Big Data Technology MicroMasters^® Program Certificates for Fall 2027/28 Intake

With effect from 2023/24 academic year, applicants who have met the MSc(IT) program admission requirements and with a valid certificate of HKUSTx's Big Data Technology MicroMasters^® Program certificates would be eligible to apply for:

• credit transfer of 9 credits; and
• tuition fee reduction of HK$13,000

Applicants must ensure that full English name shown on their MicroMasters^® certificate matches exactly the name shown on their passport or identity document for verification purposes.  It would be deemed invalid if a discrepancy is identified.

Students who have accepted an offer of admission to the MSc(IT) program must complete the entire MicroMasters^® program by 30 June 2027 and submit the supporting documents via the Credit Transfer Application Form by 30 July 2027 for consideration.  If approved, tuition fee reductions will be applied in the second term of program study.

Please note that applications based on completion of individual MicroMasters^® course(s) will not be considered.  Late submission of credit transfer application will also not be accepted in any circumstances.  Application results would be announced around early September 2027.

Important Note:

The above information are related solely to the application procedure for credit transfer, course exemption, and tuition fee reduction for enrolment in the MSc(IT) program.  It does not cover any other administrative matters related to the MicroMasters^® program such as course enrolment, fee payment, payment deadlines, etc.

Graduates of this program have gone on to find jobs in technology and financial companies as Program Analysts, Business Analysts, Cloud Architects, Cyber Security Analysts, Data Analysts, Data Engineers, Database Administrators, IT consultants, IT Specialists, Information Systems Managers, Machine Learning Engineers, System Engineers, and others.

Many found such jobs in their home countries, while others stayed in Hong Kong. Meanwhile, some have decided to pursue further study, and enrolled in MPhil and PhD programs at HKUST or other universities around the world.
