Overview
Description
The program offers advanced civil engineering and management courses for engineering graduates who wish to strengthen their civil engineering knowledge, as well as prepare themselves for advanced engineering practices with management responsibilities. Students have the freedom to define their own area of concentration by taking courses from a few selected sub-areas, or cover a broad base by taking courses from a variety of sub-areas.

Curriculum

MSc students are required to take a minimum of 30 credits of courses, including 6 credits of MSc Project, while PGD students are required to complete 15 credits. Students are given an option to complete a concentration in a selected sub-area. For details, please refer to the Postgraduate Program Catalog & Course Catalog

Admission and English Proficiency Requirements

Applicants must possess a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering field with second-class honors or higher, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized university or tertiary institution. For English Proficiency Requirements, please refer to HKUST Fok Ying Tung Graduate School.

Program Fee

The nominal program fee for MSc in Civil Infrastructural Engineering and Management for full-time study is HK$147,000 (paid in 2 installments) and part-time study is HK$120,000 (paid in 4 installments) respectively. 

The nominal program fee for Postgraduate Diploma in Civil Infrastructural Engineering and Management for part-time study is HK$73,500 (paid in 2 installments) respectively.

Targeted Taught Postgraduate Programmes Fellowships Scheme 2022/23 for MSc CIEM local applicants

A total of 14 fellowships shall be awarded to MSc(CIEM) local students of Fall 2022 intake. Students are required to pay a minimum tuition fee of HK$42,100 and the differences will be subsidized by the fellowships subject to a maximum amount of HK$120,000 for each student.   • Accreditation of MSc program by JBM

    Further Learning Programme

    MSc (Technical and non-technical)

    This degree is accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM) comprising of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Institution of Structural Engineers, Institute of Highway Engineers, the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation and the Permanent Way Institution on behalf of the Engineering Council as meeting the requirements for Further Learning for a Chartered Engineer (CEng) for candidates who have already acquired a partial CEng accredited undergraduate first degree.*

    *It should be noted that candidates completing the MSc who hold an underpinning accredited IEng degree or a non-accredited bachelor degree will need to apply for an academic assessment to determine whether they will meet the educational base for CEng registration. 

  • Accreditation of MSc Program by HKICM
    Graduates of the MSc in Civil Infrastructural Engineering and Management program are academically acceptable for the Corporate membership of the Hong Kong Institute of Construction Managers

Continuing Education Fund (CEF) 

These programs have been included in the list of reimbursable courses under the Continuing Education Fund. They are recognized under the Qualifications Framework (QF Level [6]). After 1 April 2019, successful applicants who are HK citizens and are eligible for CEF may be reimbursed with a maximum sum of HK$20,000 upon successful completion of the entire program with an overall attendance rate over 70%. For details and updates of eligibility, application, and reimbursement procedures (in particular the reimbursement period from the date of application), please check the CEF Office or 3142-2277 (24-hour enquiry hotline). 

Attention: Effective from 1 April 2019, there will be a series of enhancement measures related to CEF applied to all new, currently valid and closed accounts.
