Description
The program offers advanced civil engineering and management courses for engineering graduates who wish to strengthen their civil engineering knowledge, as well as prepare themselves for advanced engineering practices with management responsibilities. Students have the freedom to define their own area of concentration by taking courses from a few selected sub-areas, or cover a broad base by taking courses from a variety of sub-areas.
Content

Curriculum

MSc students are required to take a minimum of 30 credits of courses, including 6 credits of MSc Project, while PGD students are required to complete 15 credits. Students are given an option to complete a concentration in a selected sub-area. For details, please refer to the Postgraduate Program Catalog & Course Catalog

Admission and English Proficiency Requirements

Applicants must possess a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering field with second-class honors or higher, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized university or tertiary institution. For English Proficiency Requirements, please refer to HKUST Fok Ying Tung Graduate School.

Program Fee

For 2024/25 Spring intake (February 2025):

The nominal program fee for MSc in Civil Infrastructural Engineering and Management for part-time study is HK$155,000 (paid in 4 installments) respectively. 

The nominal program fee for Postgraduate Diploma in Civil Infrastructural Engineering and Management for part-time study is HK$89,000 (paid in 2 installments) respectively. 

For 2025/26 Fall intake (September 2025):

The nominal program fee for MSc in Civil Infrastructural Engineering and Management for full-time study is HK$186,900 (paid in 2 installments) and part-time study is HK$162,800 (paid in 4 installments) respectively.

The nominal program fee for Postgraduate Diploma in Civil Infrastructural Engineering and Management for part-time study is HK$93,450 (paid in 2 installments) respectively.

    Further Learning Programme

    MSc (Technical and non-technical)

    This degree is accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM) comprising of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Institution of Structural Engineers, Institute of Highway Engineers, the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation and the Permanent Way Institution on behalf of the Engineering Council as meeting the requirements for Further Learning for a Chartered Engineer (CEng) for candidates who have already acquired a partial CEng accredited undergraduate first degree.*

    *It should be noted that candidates completing the MSc who hold an underpinning accredited IEng degree or a non-accredited bachelor degree will need to apply for an academic assessment to determine whether they will meet the educational base for CEng registration.

Prof. Anthony LEUNG, Associate Professor of Department Civil and Environmental Engineering, has been awarded the Outstanding Young Geotechnical Engineer Award by the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE).
Prof. Charles NG, Chair Professor of Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering has won the second-class honor of the 2020 Natural Science Award from the State Council for the research project “State-dependent Constitutive Framework for Unsaturated Soils and Its Applications”
Prof. ZHAO Jidong, Professor of Department Civil and Environmental Engineering, has been named a Chair Professor of the Changjiang Scholars Program for 2021-2024 by the Ministry of Education (MOE) of the People’s Republic of China which is one of the highest academic accolades given to individuals in the higher education sector by MOE.
Prof. ZHANG Limin, Head and Chair Professor of Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and his project team received a First Class Award in Natural Science for their project on “Mechanisms of Landslides Due to the Formation of Soil Cracks and Preferential Flows”
Prof. YANG Hai, Chair Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, has won the 2021 Francis C. A paper written by Prof. Anthony Leung, Associate Professor of Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, together with Dr. David Boldrin of the University of Dundee and Prof. Anthony Glyn Bengough of the University of Dundee and the James Hutton Institute, has received the Geotechnical Research Medal 2022 from ICE Publishing.
