Student Groups

Get students’ potential activated and connected to the real world

HKUST students from all disciplines can get involved in various student groups to discover and develop their talent. We are actively working with various institutions on newest events and learning opportunities and promoting their activities to students who want to explore.

HKUST Robotics Team

HKUST Robotics Team

The HKUST Robotics Team has students from the School of Engineering, School of Science, School of Business and Management, and Academy of Interdisciplinary Studies. Divided into several sub-groups, the team focuses on three complex and diverse competitions: ABU Robocon Contest, MATE ROV Competition, NXP Cup Intelligent Car Race.

In order to solve practical problems in preparation for these competitions, students not only have to apply their academic knowledge creatively, but also need to improve their communication and time management skills. The team has received various awards and recognition from the different competitions at a local, national, and international level.

HKUST Robotics Team

Since 2004, the HKUST Robotics Team has earned over 90 awards at a local, national, and international level.

The HKUST Robotics Team has also been engaged in community projects since 2013, helping out with different community activities and workshops, including an underwater robot competition for underprivileged students, students with special educational needs and ethnic minorities in March and April 2019.

HKUST Red Bird Racing (EVRT)

HKUST Red Bird Racing (EVRT)

Originated as an experimental project back in 2017, Red Bird Racing (EVRT) became HKUST's official student racing team actively participating in Formula Student. Formula student is one of the most established engineering competitions that aims to develop young engineers to be innovative and prepare them with the knowledge and skill in the career of engineering.

In 2019 we participated in Formula Student Electric China (FSEC).

With the knowledge and experience from FSEC, we stepped our game up and joined the Formula Student United Kingdom (FSUK) in 2020. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, only virtual events could be participated. In 2021, we competed in the Concept Class in FSUK, winning the Virtual Dynamic events, "Virtual Race" and "Lap Time Simulation". With achievements and more experience, our team is growing stronger than ever.
