香港科技大學（科大）最近加入了國際性非牟利合作組織 — Partnership on AI to Benefit People and Society (PAI) — 推動人工智能在亞洲區的發展之餘，亦確保其引申的道德、安全、保安、私隱、透明度以及公平性問題得到重視。 由包括亞馬遜、谷歌、臉書與微軟等科技公司巨頭所創立，PAI近日邀請科大以及其他國際知名學術機構如牛津大學網路研究院，和普林斯頓大學資訊科技政策中心等出任為其成員，科大是首個加入PAI的亞洲機構。

科大校長陳繁昌教授歡迎加入這個新同盟，他表示：「人工智能正推進我們於健康及均衡生活、交通與教育等各方面的發展，但亦同時帶來有關安全、可信性、公平性及透明度等迫切隱憂。我很高興科大能在這個關鍵時刻，與世界上最具影響力的科技領袖一同努力，就解決這些問題上一同出謀獻策。」

為了把構想付諸行動，科大電子及計算機工程系教授兼人工智能語音及語言技術領域方面的專家馮雁，代表科大出席PAI於10月23日及24日在柏林所舉辦，為期兩天的論壇，與全球專家就人工智能對安全及保安、勞工，以及有關科技對社會的影響等問題進行交流。

作為PAI唯一的華裔成員，馮教授在會議中提出建立一個亞洲分會，以促進人工智能的道德發展。 隨著人口老化和技術的迅速演化，亞洲 — 尤其是中國、南韓和日本，已成為人工智能創新的主要動力之一，當中中國所擁有的龐大用戶群以及包括由科大訓練出來的大量工程人才，更另它迅速冒升為人工智能的超級大國。馮教授在論壇上提出，人工智能現有的道德標準，必須轉化為對不同國家的文化及歷史背景具敏感度的應用指引，以促進全球人工智能社區的道德發展。

PAI為不同組織提供一個開放及兼容的平台，以開發人工智能、分享最佳案例、提高公眾對人工智能的了解，並促進人工智能方面的創新發展。
