Prof Jianan Qu, Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering, has been elected as Fellow of the Optical Society of America (OSA) for pioneering contributions to the development of label-free noninvasive spectroscopy and imaging technology for life science research and medical diagnosis.

The Optical Society brings together optics and photonics scientists, engineers, educators, and business leaders. It promotes the generation, application and archiving of knowledge in optics and photonics. Over the course of OSA's nearly one hundred year history, 31 members have been awarded a Nobel Prize in Physics, Chemistry or Physiology/Medicine. OSA's membership totals more than 17,000 individuals from over 100 countries and approximately 52 percent of the Society's members reside outside the United States. The OSA Fellow is awarded to elected OSA Members who have made significant contributions to the advancement of optics and photonics. OSA elevates about 65 members to rank of fellow each year.
