Great Success in 2008-09 Hong Kong Youth Design Competition for ECE Students

The exhibition of the 2008-09 Hong Kong Youth Design Competition was held at the Hong Kong Science Museum on 14 March 2009. More than 50 teams from tertiary institutes joined the competition with different themes in 3 categories:

 

Category 1: Creative designs for elderly assistive devices;

Category 2: Creative designs for elderly home appliances; and 

Category 3: Creative designs to enhance standard of living.

 

The ECE Department and our students are honorable to receive 8 awards as follows:

2. Champion - eCube

3. Most Creative Award - Embedded Cognitive Therapy in Digital Photo Frame
(A group of ELEC Yr 3 students - LAU Ming Tak, Carmen LAU Ka Man, Rainy LAM Po Chu)

Category 2: Creative designs for elderly home appliances
4. Most Creative Award - Automatic Volume Remote Controller
(A group of ELEC Yr 3 students - LO Chun Sing, SUEN Wai Chung, KWAN Man Yin)
5. Most Practical Award - Pills On Time
(A group of ELEC Yr 2 students - Esther WONG Pui Yin, Philip LI, Kelvin LEUNG Ming Fai)

Category 3: Creative designs to enhance standard of living
6. Champion - GPS-based Elderly Tracking System
(A group of ELEC graduates - Andy CHAN Ho Ting, KiKi CHONG Fung Kei, Gloria KONG Lai Yan)

(A group of ELEC Yr 3 students - Walter TSUI Ying Lun, Jason LAI Yan Man, CHEUNG Pak Ming)

This competition aims to raise the awareness of elderly care and social responsibility among young people. Students have to design new products that address the needs of the elderly. Through their research and design process, students are able to gain a deeper understanding of different types of elderly care services and products, and how they could help improve the lives of these people through their inventions.
