PhD student LIU Yichen Won in Student Paper Competition of IEEE RF Technology & Techniques Symposium
Electronic and Computer Engineering (ECE) PhD student LIU Yichen won the Second Place in the Student Paper Competition of the Radio Frequency Technology & Techniques Symposium at the 2026 IEEE International Microwave Theory and Technology Symposia, held in Boston, US on June 7-12, 2026.
The IEEE International Microwave Theory and Technology Symposia (IMS) is a premier international event for radio frequency (RF) and microwave technologies, gathering leading researchers, engineers, and industry professionals from around the world. As one of the major technical symposia under IMS, the IEEE Radio Frequency Technology & Techniques Symposium focuses on RF components, devices, circuits, packaging, computer-aided design, and emerging RF hardware technologies.
Supervised by Prof. Kevin CHEN, Chair Professor of the ECE Department, Yichen was awarded for his paper titled “GaN Non-Volatile RF Switch Based on Bipolar Charge Trapping for Reconfigurable RF FEMs”. The research work, jointly completed by Yichen and ECE postdoctoral fellow Dr. ZHANG Yuanke, demonstrates a GaN-based non-volatile RF switch that can be programmed to ON/OFF states through bipolar charge trapping and can maintain its states without external bias. The proposed device technology offers a promising pathway for high-power reconfigurable RF front-end modules in intelligent wireless systems.
