The Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering’s (ECE) Friday Get-Together and the School of Engineering’s fourth “Industry Connects University” (I-Connect-U) biannual forum on March 27, 2026, brought together faculty and students for an evening of insightful discussion and networking on the theme of “AIM for ‘AI for Medicine’”.

The event kicked off with opening remarks from Dr. Shin Cheul KIM, Associate Vice-President for Research and Development (Knowledge Transfer), and Prof. Andrew POON, Head and Professor of the ECE Department.

Dr. Danny CHAN, Honorary Clinical Associate Professor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Consultant Neurosurgeon & Head of Neurosurgery of the Prince of Wales Hospital, was the keynote speaker. He delivered a compelling presentation on the transformative role of AI in medical innovation, offering a unique perspective on how engineering solutions are being integrated into clinical environments to improve patient outcomes.

This was followed by a panel discussion moderated by Prof. Patrick YUE, Professor of ECE. Panelists involved Dr. Danny Chan, Prof. WANG Yiwen, Associate Professor of ECE, and Prof. LI Xiaomeng, Assistant Professor of ECE.

The event was concluded with closing remarks by Prof. Yue, following by a mingling session. The occasion provided the HKUST engineering community with a valuable opportunity to explore the intersection of electronics, AI, and healthcare.
