Prof. Yoonseob KIM’s Review Article Featured in Rising Stars Series 2025 of Progress in Polymer Science
An article published by Prof. Yoonseob KIM, Associate Professor of the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, has been featured in the Rising Stars Series of the journal Progress in Polymer Science. The honor highlights Prof. Kim’s rapidly emerging leadership in the design and application of advanced polymer materials for next-generation energy storage technologies. The article, titled “Sustainable polymers for battery applications”, is authored by Prof. Kim and his PhD student YIN Zhuoyu.
A special issue of Progress in Polymer Science, the Rising Stars Series presents a collection of reviews authored by early- and mid-career researchers who are making significant strides in the field of polymer science. Since its inaugural issue in 2023, the series has gathered a diverse group of contributors from China, India, Japan, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States. These scholars were nominated by the journal’s editorial team, and selected for their reviews that exemplify originality, significance, and relevance to current trends in their respective areas of research.
Prof. Kim’s research focuses on the design and synthesis of advanced organic materials, particularly covalent organic frameworks (COFs) and functional polymers, to address critical challenges in energy storage and conversion. At the core of Prof. Kim’s work is the development of organic-based solid electrolytes, artificial interphases, and cathode materials that enhance the performance, safety, and sustainability of next-generation rechargeable batteries. This includes lithium metal, sodium metal, lithium–sulfur, calcium-ion, and anode-free alkali metal batteries, where he aims to overcome limitations such as dendrite growth, unstable interfaces, low Coulombic efficiency, and limited cycle life.
