HKUST-Goertek Donation Agreements Signing Ceremony

The School of Engineering of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and Goertek Inc. signed two donation agreements on August 29, 2025: one to establish scholarships and awards, and another to support training programs of student competition teams under the Center for Global & Community Engagement.

Prof. Hong K. LO, HKUST Dean of Engineering, and Mr. GAO Xiaoguang, Senior Vice President of Goertek Inc., signed the two agreements on behalf of the two parties. The ceremony was also attended by (from HKUST) Prof. WANG Yu-Hsing, Associate Dean of Engineering (Undergraduate Studies); Prof. Albert CHUNG, Associate Dean of Engineering (Research and Graduate Studies); Prof. TSUI Chi-Ying, Director of Entrepreneurship Education; Prof. Tim WOO, Director of the Center for Global & Community Engagement, and (from Goertek) Mr. KANG Chuanyi, General Manager of South-China Platform; Mrs Nicole XU, Director of Talent Allocation; Mr. Jason ZHUANG, University Cooperation Manager; and Mr. WANG Huni, Human Resource Office Manager.

The agreements underscore a shared commitment of HKUST and Goertek to nurturing talent and fostering innovation, paving the way for future leaders in technology and engineering. By aligning their missions, the two parties aim to create impactful educational experiences that empower students to excel in their fields.

Under the first agreement, the “Goertek Academic Excellence Scholarship” (歌爾學術卓越獎學金) and the “Goertek Talent Award” (歌爾企業人才獎) will be established and offered in three academic years from 2025/26 to 2027/28. The scholarship targets Master of Science (MSc) students in the School of Engineering and selection of recipients is based on academic achievements. The Talent Award targets both undergraduates and MSc students in the School of Engineering and selected students will undertake an internship at Goertek.

In the second agreement, Goertek will support student competition teams of the Dream Team Hub under the Center for Global & Community Engagement to participate in training programs during the fall semester of 2025/26 academic year.

After the signing ceremony, Goertek representatives visited the Fei Chi En Dream Team Open Lab at the Engineering Commons to listen to the presentation of the HKUST student competition teams and learn about their robots and model planes demonstration.
