Around 200 alumni, faculty members and students enjoyed a delightful gathering at the HKUST Engineering Alumni Summer Mixer 2024 on September 13 at the Hong Kong Science Park. Hosted by the School of Engineering, the joyous event was co-organized with the HKUST Entrepreneurship Center and Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP).

Attendees were warmly welcomed by Prof. Hong K. LO, HKUST Dean of Engineering, and Mr. Ernest MA, Associate Director, Acceleration, HKSTP. Prof. Lo gave a presentation of the School’s latest developments while Mr. Ma introduced HKSTP’s wide-ranging support and opportunities for entrepreneurs and I&T talents.

The event showcased an exciting array of 10 high-tech start-ups and enterprises founded by SENG members, exemplifying the entrepreneurial spirit of the School’s community and highlighting home-grown innovations that are advancing various industries. The line-up featured Allegrow, Alpha Energy IoT, AtomSemi, Breer, locobike, Meat the Next, PanopticAI, PhoMedics, SmartMore, and XOXO Beverages. Attendees had the opportunity to interact with the founders and their co-workers, learn about their projects, and explore potential collaborations.

Prior to the event, a guided tour of the HKSTP Experience Center and a company visit to SmartMore headquarters were arranged for approximately 30 current SENG students and faculty members. The center tour provided participants with diverse sensory experience of Hong Kong’s achievements in innovation and technology. Meanwhile, the visit to SmartMore, a fast-growing AI unicorn founded by HKUST alumnus-turned-faculty Prof. JIA Jiaya, gave participants valuable insights into the company’s intelligent manufacturing technology.

The reunion provided a wonderful opportunity for alumni to meet professors and peers, share their work and life experience, and learn about the School’s future development.
