The School of Engineering is pleased to announce the appointment of Prof. Philip K. T. MOK, Professor of the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering (ECE), to succeed Prof. TSUI Chi-Ying as the new Associate Dean of Engineering (Undergraduate Studies), with effect from October 8, 2018. Prof. Mok will work along with Prof. CHENG Siu-Wing, also Associate Dean of Engineering (Undergraduate Studies), to oversee undergraduate matters in the School.

Prof. Mok received his BASc, MASc and PhD degrees, all in Electrical and Computer Engineering, from the University of Toronto (U of T), Canada in 1986, 1989 and 1995 respectively. He joined HKUST in January 1995 and was promoted to Professor in July 2010. Over the years, Prof. Mok has provided dedicated service to the ECE Department, the School and the University in various capacities, including the faculty-in-charge of research center/labs, faculty advisor for undergraduate students, and committee member for undergraduate curriculum and student affairs. He was the Associate Head for Undergraduate Studies and Outreach in the ECE Department from 2014 to 2018 before taking up the Associate Dean position.

Prof. Mok’s research interests include power management integrated circuits, low-voltage analog integrated circuits and energy harvesting circuits and systems design. His achievement in the field was recognized by an IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) Fellowship in 2014. Research aside, Prof. Mok is a devoted teacher. His teaching excellence has earned him the School’s Teaching Excellence Appreciation Award three times.

Prof. Mok has been active in providing professional services to the international academic community. He was a member of International Technical Program Committee at the IEEE International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC) from 2005 to 2010 and from 2015 to 2016. He served as an associate editor for three IEEE journals at different periods over the past 13 years, including IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems I, which he served from 2007 to 2010 and since 2016. Locally, Prof. Mok is a member of Technology Review Panel of ASTRI Information and Communication Technology R&D Center since 2010 and a member of Engineering Panel of Hong Kong Research Grants Council from 2009 to 2015.

The School would like to pay tribute to and thank Prof. Tsui Chi-Ying for his leadership and valuable contribution as an Associate Dean of Engineering (Undergraduate Studies) in the past four years. Under his stewardship, the School has made remarkable advancements in evolving and broadening its undergraduate education and promoting innovation amongst secondary school students through hands-on and interactive projects. A Professor from the ECE Department, Prof. Tsui has been the Director of the Academy for Bright Future Young Engineers since 2016 and has assumed his new role as the Acting Head of the Division of Integrative Systems and Design since September 1, 2018.
