A cross-departmental team of three postgraduate students won the championship and Special Award for IDex (IEEE 2668) in the Hong Kong Electronics Project Competition 2024, organized by the Electronics Division of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE). The IEEE 2668 standard defines the mechanisms and criteria for evaluating Internet of Things (IoT) objects based on their applications and performance.

The team comprises Electronic and Computer Engineering MPhil student CHAN Sum-Ping and PhD student YE Wenhao, and Mechanical Engineering MPhil student FANG Sile. Titled “The Smart Logistics Intelligent Cabinet”, their winning project proposed an advanced system that leverages a pressure sensor array and AI algorithms to optimize the last-mile delivery process. The system utilizes wireless sensing and AI technologies to enhance the business-to-consumer (B2C) interface and minimize logistical challenges, while also expanding the functionality of the logistics cabinet through a simple yet effective mechanical design.

With the theme of “Creating Resilient Cities with Innovation and Technology”, the competition aims to raise the awareness of innovative technologies in Hong Kong and nurture engineers and students to effectively use and apply innovative technologies to improve the quality of life.

The award presentation ceremony was held on May 7, 2024 during the Hong Kong Electronics Symposium 2024.
