The School of Engineering is pleased to announce the appointment of Prof. George YUAN, Associate Professor of the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering (ECE), to succeed Prof. Richard SO as the new Associate Dean of Engineering (Research and Graduate Studies), with effect from July 1, 2024. 

Prof. Yuan received his PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania in 2006 and his BS degree in Electronic Engineering from Tsinghua University in 2000. He joined the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) as an assistant professor in the ECE Department in 2006. His strong commitment to postgraduate affairs has been demonstrated in his roles as the Associate Head (Postgraduate Studies and Outreach) in ECE Department from 2021 to 2024, Chair of the Senate Committee on Postgraduate Studies of HKUST from 2020 to 2024, and Chair of the Joint Committee Session on Postgraduate Studies, a joint consultative academic mechanism between HKUST and HKUST(GZ), from 2022 to 2024.

Prof. Yuan’s research interests lie on analog-to-digital converters, sensor interface integrated circuits, biomedical/environmental integrated sensors, IoT eccentric ultra-low-power telemetry/energy harvesting, wearable sensors, CMOS imaging sensors.

Prof. Yuan is a Senior Member of IEEE. He served as the chair of the Analog Signal Processing Technical Committee and the Biomedical and Life Science Circuits and Systems Technical Committee of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society. He also served as an associate editor of the IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Circuits and Systems and IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems II: Express Briefs, and a guest editor of the IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems I: Regular Papers.

The School would like to pay tribute and thank Prof. Richard So for his dedicated service and contributions as the Associate Dean of Engineering (Research and Graduate Studies) in the past six years. Under his leadership, the School has made remarkable progress in expanding postgraduate education and promoting multidisciplinary and team-based research.
