Sports enthusiast Prof. Mansun CHAN, Alex Wong Siu Wah Gigi Wong Fook Chi Professor of Engineering and Chair Professor of Electronic and Computer Engineering (ECE), won the Staff Sportsman Award of the Paul and May Chu Sportsman/Sportswoman of the Year Award 2022-23.

Established in 2010-11 in honor of the departing President Prof. Paul CHU, the award selects two students and two staff members at the University each year to recognize their sports performance in competitions, contribution/services to teams, and contribution to the development of sports in the University community.

Prof. Chan is an athlete in long-distance running and trail running. He participated in the Standard Chartered Marathon and Oxfam Trailwalker. He established the ECE Department Oxfam Trailwalker team and led three teams to participate in the Oxfam Trailwalker in 2023. His team completed the race and ranked 36 out of 392 teams with the result of 21 hours and 3 minutes.
