One Million Dollar Entrepreneurship Competition Held in Seven Cities
The highly popular annual One Million Dollar Entrepreneurship Competition, launched by HKUST at Clear Water Bay in 2011, expanded to a total of seven Chinese cities, six within the Greater Bay Area. The contest provides a platform for participants to create and receive evaluation on new businesses from industry experts, investors, and academics, helping to promote entrepreneurship in Hong Kong and nationally, fostering knowledge transfer, and encouraging technology startups. Cities comprised Hong Kong, Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Macau, Foshan, and Zhongshan.
By 2020, participants had grown to eight cities and regions, including the Yangtze River Delta, and the total number of proposals submitted nationally topped 1,800 while in 2021, its 10th Anniversary, the number of teams entering the Hong Kong section of the contest had reached 185, rising from 151 a year earlier, and 117 in 2019. The increasing scale has not only reinforced collaboration between HKUST and other cities in the Greater Bay Area, but also advanced interaction and promoted creativity among entrepreneurs in China.
