SENG Teaching Excellence Appreciation Award 2009-10

Three Engineering faculty members were presented the Teaching Excellence Appreciation Award 2009-10 in recognition of their continuous excellence in undergraduate teaching as well as their effort in fostering students’ interest in the subject and promoting students’ learning.

Distinguished Teaching Award

Prof Ying Chau, Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering
Prof Chau is regarded by students and faculty members as a highly responsible and talented lecturer. She teaches and delivers lectures with good organization and clear explanation of concepts. Her course evaluations are consistently above the departmental average for the past three years. As an excellent teacher, she also likes to share her teaching skills with colleagues. In addition, she is heavily involved in the departmental Teaching Quality Assessment and drives the Intern Program.

Teaching Awards

Prof Kam Tim Woo, Electronic and Computer Engineering
Prof Woo has made special and unique achievements in encouraging undergraduate students to join external project competitions in Hong Kong and providing great support to the students so that they can succeed in the competitions. He also performs extremely well in recruiting undergraduate students and is very active in mentoring students at all levels. He developed two new undergraduate courses in 2008-09 and scored highly in the teaching evaluation.

Prof Huihe Qiu, Mechanical Engineering
Prof Qiu has engaged in undergraduate teaching since 1994 and he is actively involved in developing new courses. He spends a lot of efforts in bringing new elements into classroom and laboratory teaching, including incorporating a number of new developments in the industry into the course. In his laboratory course, he supervises students in experiments to integrate fundamental knowledge into practice. His teaching evaluation in the laboratory course is consistently above average.
