HKUST launched the high-resolution optical satellite “HKUST-FYBB#1” in collaboration with Chang Guang Satellite Technology Company Ltd at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center on August 25, 2023. As Hong Kong higher education sector’s first satellite, “HKUST-FYBB#1” was used for tracking remote sensing data related to global environment, disaster and sustainable development. The launch was generously supported by a donation from Mr. Francis YIP Chi-Hung and his wife, Mrs. Catherine YIP NG Bun-Bun, whom the satellite was named after.
