Prof. Arpit NARECHANIA, Assistant Professor of Computer Science and Engineering, was awarded the prestigious IEEE VGTC Visualization Doctoral Dissertation Award for his dissertation titled “Designing, Developing, and Democratizing Guidance for Visual Analytics”. Presented by the Visualization and Graphics Technical Committee (VGTC) of the IEEE Computer Society, this award recognizes his outstanding work at the intersection of information visualisation, visual analytics, and human–computer interaction.

Prof. Narechania received his PhD in Computer Science at Georgia Institute of Technology in 2024 and joined HKUST in 2025. His research addresses the critical challenge of enabling effective collaboration between humans and AI-driven visual analytics systems. Such contributions are highly influential and have already seen adoption in industry. His dissertation presents innovative approaches that enhance user understanding and interaction with complex data through adaptive guidance mechanisms. The work stands out for its intellectual rigor, clarity, and a visionary outlook that promotes the democratization of analytic guidance tools.
