Prof. SHAO Minhua Honored with Shanghai Natural Science Award (Second Class)

Cheong Ying Chan Professor of Energy Engineering and Environment Prof. SHAO Minhua, his former PhD student Dr. ZHU Shangqian (now at Southeast University, Nanjing), and collaborators from Fudan University were recognized with a Shanghai Natural Science Award (Second Class) 2025 by the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government for their project on “Mechanistic Studies of Electrocatalytic Conversion of Carbon-based Small Molecules”. Prof. Shao is the Head and Chair Professor of the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering and Director of the Energy Institute.

This project focuses on the electrochemical interconversion of small carbon-containing molecules such as carbon dioxide, methanol and ethanol, for renewable energy and chemical synthesis. Through developing advanced in situ spectroscopies, the team deciphers the complex interfacial reaction mechanisms, offering essential theoretical guidance and practical strategies for achieving carbon neutrality.
