School of Engineering Welcomed Second Cohort of Industry Engagement Committee
Building upon the strong foundation established by its inaugural cohort (2024-2026), the School of Engineering (SENG) has officially formed its second-cohort Industry Engagement Committee (IEC) for the 2026-2028 term.
To mark this next phase of collaboration, the School hosted an inauguration ceremony on June 26, 2026, at the Engineering Commons. The new cohort comprises 18 distinguished industry leaders and senior executives spanning multiple sectors. They will play a vital role in advising on the alignment of education with industry needs, representing the School to external stakeholders, fostering strategic partnerships, and facilitating access to industry expertise for impactful research and innovation.
In his welcome remarks, Dean of Engineering Prof. Hong K. LO highlighted that the committee’s insights, support, and active involvement would be invaluable as the School continues to prepare students for a rapidly evolving technological landscape, strengthen academia-industry collaboration, and advance knowledge transfer. After the opening remarks, he delivered a presentation to highlight the School’s recent achievements and future prospects. This was followed by the presentation of commemorative plaques to the committee members in recognition of their strategic partnership and support.
Prior to the ceremony, IEC members were invited to visit the HKUST Von Neumann Institute and attend an insightful presentation by Prof. ZHANG Limin titled “Introduction to MUSICO: Hong Kong’s First Scientific Payload on the Tiangong Space Station”. These interactive sessions highlighted the School’s latest breakthroughs in cutting-edge research and set the stage for upcoming collaborative initiatives.
The ceremony concluded with a networking session, offering a valuable opportunity for IEC members and SENG faculty to engage in fruitful exchanges and share insights on potential synergies.
Under the continuing Industry Connects University (I-Connect-U) event series, established by the School since the inaugural cohort, IEC members will be invited as guest speakers in forums and panel discussions over the next two years. These engagements will serve as a dynamic platform to foster meaningful dialogue and knowledge transfer across the entire SENG community.
