SENG Powers AI and STEAM Programs at Inaugural HKUST Pioneers Summer Camp

As part of the University’s 35th anniversary celebrations, the inaugural two-day, one-night HKUST Pioneers Summer Camp was hosted on July 18-19, 2026, at the Clear Water Bay campus. The landmark event was co-organized by the HKUST Development and Alumni Office and the HKUST Convocation, and supported by the Academy for Bright Future Young Engineers of the School of Engineering (SENG). It brought together alumni and their families and friends for an unforgettable experience filled with inspiring dialogues, hands-on STEAM and AI workshops, live performances, wellness activities, and joyful reconnections. Adding to the excitement, participants also had the unique opportunity to stay at the University’s brand-new student residential complex, the Jockey Club i-Village.

SENG faculty members and students play a key role in spearheading a series of interactive AI and STEAM sessions, which included:

• Inspiring Talk: “The Magic and Illusion of Generative AI” delivered by Prof. Desmond TSOI, Associate Professor of Engineering Education
• AI Workshops: “Racing Game” led by Prof. Ben CHAN, Associate Director of the Academy for Bright Future Young Engineers
• STEAM Workshops: “STEAM DIY Workshops” and “Climbing Robot Workshop and Games” led by Prof. Tim WOO, Associate Director of the Academy for Bright Future Young Engineers

In a testament to the strong spirit of alumni support, all program costs and three light meals across the two-day event were generously sponsored by Mr. Terry TSANG, Chairman of the HKUST Convocation and an alumnus of both the School of Engineering and the School of Business and Management.

Additionally, with registration fee set at HK$500 per participant, all proceeds were fully donated to the HKUST Alumni Endowment Fund to support university development.
