HKUST Firebird Cybersecurity Competition Team Won Championship in 5th Pengcheng Cup (Hong Kong and Macau District)
The HKUST Firebird Cybersecurity Competition Team from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering won the Championship in the Fifth “Pengcheng Cup” Federal Cyber Range Collaborative Attack-Defense Exercise – Hong Kong and Macau District (第五屆「鵬城杯」聯邦網絡靶場協同攻防演練 – 港澳賽區). Supervised by Dr. Alex LAM, the victorious team includes LAM Hung-Fai (current Firebird team leader), WAN Him-Ting (former COMP 4633 student), KUANG Da (former COMP 4633 student), and XU Yin-Yui (former COMP 4633 student).
Jointly organized by the Pengcheng Laboratory from Shenzhen, the China Cyberspace Emerging Technology Security Innovation Forum, and other professional bodies, the event took place from January 16 to 18, 2026, at the City University of Macau. The competition this year drew 513 teams from over 300 universities, enterprises, and research institutions nationwide in the preliminary rounds, with 78 advancing to the national finals. In the Hong Kong-Macau regional track, 13 teams competed, and six progressed to the final. The exercise simulated high-fidelity cyber range environments with realistic collaborative attack-defense scenarios, emphasizing technical skills and teamwork.
