The “Workshop on Noise Impact and Control for Low-Altitude Aviation”, jointly organized by the Aerodynamics & Acoustics Facility (AAF) of HKUST and the Aerodynamics Research Institute of AVIC, was successfully held from October 31 to November 1, 2025, at HKUST campus.

The workshop aims to bring together leading researchers, industry experts, and policymakers to address the growing challenges and explore innovations in low-altitude aircraft noise. More than 50 representatives from academia and industry participated in technical discussions and exchanged opportunities for collaboration.

Prof. ZHANG Xin, Swire Professor of Aerospace Engineering, Chair Professor of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, and AAF Director, was the Chairman of the workshop. Dean of Engineering Prof. Hong K. LO delivered an opening speech on behalf of HKUST.

The event featured an impressive line-up of invited speakers from around the world, spanning Germany, the Netherlands, China, Brazil, New Zealand, Japan, France and Romania. A variety of topics were discussed, including noise mechanisms of low-altitude aircraft; noise control technologies; testing, prediction methodologies, and computational modelling, environmental impact assessment and flight route optimization, among others.
