Orientation Activities for New Engineering Students
The School of Engineering held a series of engaging orientation activities in August and September 2025 to welcome new undergraduate and postgraduate students for the 2025-26 academic year. The events aimed to help students acclimate to their new environment and foster a sense of community among peers and faculty.
These included School-wide welcome sessions for research postgraduate students and for taught postgraduate students respectively, as well as welcome activities organized by eight departments/programs for undergraduates, including Extended Major in Artificial Intelligence, Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering, Department of Industrial Engineering and Decision Analytics, Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, and Computer Engineering Program.
This year, the School is excited to admit a record high of nearly 1,100 new undergraduate students, with around one-third of them coming from an impressive diversity of 28 countries and regions, including new additions from Belarus, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Jamaica, Rwanda, and Yemen. Similarly, we have admitted a record number of over 500 research postgraduate students and 1,600 full-time and part-time MSc students. This remarkable growth reflects the School’s commitment to attracting talent from around the globe and fostering an inclusive academic environment.
The orientation activities not only marked the beginning of the students’ academic journeys but also set the tone for a vibrant and collaborative community within the School of Engineering. We look forward to witnessing the achievements and contributions of our new students in the coming years.
