SENG Recognized Long-Serving Staff with 30 Years of Dedication
The School of Engineering (SENG) held a special Long Service Award Ceremony to honor engineering faculty and staff members who have dedicated 30 years of service to HKUST. This event was organized before the University-wide Long Service Award 2024 Presentation Ceremony on June 5, 2025, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere for SENG’s senior management and staff to celebrate with the long-serving award recipients.
In his welcome speech, Dean of Engineering Prof. Hong K. LO expressed his deepest gratitude to colleagues for their dedication and for shaping HKUST into what it is today. “Thirty years of commitment, hard work, and loyalty is not just an achievement – you literally become part of the HKUST legacy and an integral part of our successes. Your dedication goes beyond your years of service; it is about your countless contributions, late nights working on projects, and innovations that brought recognition and fame to HKUST. You are a huge part of what HKUST represents today,” he said. He described the long-serving staff, after so long, as not just employees but as a family, and stated that their legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
Prof. Lo, together with the Associate Deans and Department Heads, then presented the long-serving staff with a commemorative gift, a tailor-made wooden plaque preserved from the Acacia Confusa trees on campus that were cut down to make way for the construction of the new Innovation Building. Each of the plaques was engraved with the staff’s name, symbolizing not only the legacy they will leave behind, but also their renewal spirit in transforming the campus community.
Following the ceremony, attendees enjoyed refreshments and took the opportunity to reconnect and exchange congratulatory messages, providing a delightful wrap-up to the event and fostering a sense of camaraderie and appreciation.
