Prof. ZHANG Limin Appointed as Wilson H. Tang Professor of Engineering
Prof. ZHANG Limin, Head and Chair Professor of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, has been appointed as Wilson H. Tang Professor of Engineering with effect from January 1, 2025, under the HKUST Named Professorships Program.
Generously supported by donors, the prestigious Named Professorships honor and encourage the achievements of the University’s first-class scholars. Prof. Zhang joins 10 other existing named professors in the School of Engineering, bringing the School’s total to 11.
Prof. Zhang Limin is an accomplished world-class scholar in the field of geotechnical risk management. His international visibility is evidenced by numerous honors and awards he has received, notably the inaugural National Engineer Award and ASCE Ralph B. Peck Award. He serves as the Editor-in-Chief of Georisk, a leading international journal in engineered systems and geohazards. His project on “Digital Twin-Empowered Landslide Emergency Risk Management” was awarded funding in the highly competitive Theme-based Research Scheme in 2023/24. He is also co-leading a research project to develop the world’s first lightweight, high-resolution, high-precision carbon dioxide (CO₂) and methane (CH₄) synergistic observatory payload.
