Computer Science and Engineering Students Won Three Awards at HKCERT Capture the Flag Challenge 2024

Congratulations to our students from COMP 4633 and the Firebird Cybersecurity team who competed and emerged as champions of the HKCERT CTF challenge competition happened on 20 January 2025 - 21 January 2025.

The team "Students Taking Flags United", formed by COMP 4633 students, secured the championship position in the tertiary institution category. Another team formed by Firebird core members, the "Firecat", secured the 1st runner-up position in the same category. The third team formed mainly by the Firebird leaders, the "FireBUwU", has chosen to compete in the open category with all the professional industry teams. Eventually, they managed to secure the 1st runner-up spot after the vigorous 2-day competition.

Cybersecurity has become one of the most critical and talent-scarce fields in the information technology industry. Capture the Flag (CTF) competitions are designed to cultivate these essential skills and mindsets. Participants must identify hidden vulnerabilities in a simulated environment based on real-world systems to overcome security defenses. Successful participants collect "flags" and earn points.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to these teams for their remarkable achievements and look forward to their future successes.
