The School of Engineering received a Gold Award for its website (https://seng.hkust.edu.hk) in the Web Accessibility Recognition Scheme 2022-2023, recognizing the School’s effort in contributing to an accessible online world.

The scheme is organized by the Hong Kong Internet Registration Corporation Limited and co-organized by the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer, with the Equal Opportunities Commission as the independent advisor. It aims to promote digital inclusion in society by encouraging good practices of web accessibility design, enabling everyone to enjoy equal rights to access the digital world and operate internet applications.

To achieve “Gold Award” level in the scheme, organizations have to fulfill 27 judging criteria in their web accessibility design. These include structuring the website in a consistent navigation mechanism, making website content in a meaningful sequence and easy to be used with assistive technologies, allowing all operations to be performed through a keyboard interface, providing descriptive text alternative for images and text transcripts for videos, sufficient color contrast and text resizing function.

This is the second time that the School’s website won a Gold Award in the scheme.
