HKUST Engineering retains its No.1 spot in Hong Kong in two newly released 2023 subject rankings by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.

In the Engineering subject, HKUST rose to No.26 globally – a jump of two positions from No.28 last year. HKUST has been rated No.1 in Hong Kong for 12 years straight and maintains its position as fifth in Asia. The engineering subject rankings are created based on five narrower areas: general engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, mechanical and aerospace engineering, civil engineering, and chemical engineering.

In the Computer Science subject, HKUST ranks No.29 worldwide. It has retained the No.1 place in Hong Kong for seven years in a row.

The subject tables use the same 13 performance indicators as the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2023, combining scores in five categories: teaching (the learning environment); research (volume, income and reputation); citations (research influence); international outlook (staff, students and research); and industry income (knowledge transfer).

The ranking results reaffirm the School’s excellence in education and research, as well as our faculty and students’ accomplishments. We will continue to fulfill our mission to provide top-quality education for our students and achieve global impact through breakthroughs and innovation in research.
