ECE Professors and Alumnus Received IEEE Communications Society & Information Theory Society Joint Paper Award
New Bright Professor of Engineering and Chair Professor Khaled BEN LETAIEF, Adjunct Assistant Professor ZHANG Jun and alumnus Dr. MAO Yuyi (2017 PhD in Electronic and Computer Engineering), all from the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering (ECE), received the 2019 IEEE Communications Society & Information Theory Society Joint Paper Award for their paper entitled "Dynamic Computation Offloading for Mobile-Edge Computing with Energy Harvesting Devices". This is the first time ever that this prestigious award was given to authors in the Greater China area since it was first presented in 2001.
The award honors outstanding papers published in any publication of the IEEE Communications Society or the Information Theory Society within the previous three calendar years.
As of June 2019, their paper was consistently ranked as one of the top 10 most popular articles of the premier IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications, whose impact factor is 9.302, for over 28 consecutive months, and is also recognized as an Essential Science Indicators highly cited paper.
The paper investigates mobile-edge computing (MEC) with renewable energy-powered devices. MEC is recognized as one of the crucial technologies for the upcoming 5G networks as it will provide low-latency computation services at the edge of wireless networks, and will be a major enabler for various applications, including IoT, smart city, Internet of vehicles, etc.
Prof. Zhang is currently an Assistant Professor at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Dr. Mao is working at Huawei Technologies in Hong Kong.
