Schneider Electric Chairman and CEO Mr Jean-Pascal Tricoire Shares Insights on The New Energy World at HKUST 25th Anniversary Distinguished Speakers Series

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) hosted the 25th Anniversary Distinguished Speakers Series yesterday, featuring Mr Jean-Pascal Tricoire, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Schneider Electric. The event was well received by students, faculty members and guests from HKUST.

Speaking on “The New Energy World”, Mr Tricoire presented an overview on how the energy world is changing from a concentrated and scaled system to a decentralized system with diverse energy generation sources. He also shared his insights on how the convergence of information technology in the energy sector and the emergence of alternative energy generation sources at scalable levels are providing new opportunities for producing, distributing and consuming energy.

Mr Tricoire highlighted key elements in driving a sustainable energy world at the talk. He said, “We need to build a new energy efficiency paradigm, where economic growth is decoupled from rising energy consumption. By utilizing smart solutions, we can create a more sustainable world.”

A renowned business leader, Mr Jean-Pascal Tricoire joined Schneider Electric in 1986. He was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer in 2006 and named Chairman and CEO in April 2013. His career at Schneider Electric has developed largely outside France in operational functions in Italy, China, South Africa and USA. Within the General Management, he served as Vice Executive President of the International Operating Division from 2002 before being appointed in 2004 Chief Operating Officer (COO). Mr Tricoire is also the President of the France-China Committee since 2009.

With revenues of €25 billion in FY2014, its 170,000 employees serve customers in over 100 countries, helping them to manage their energy and process in ways that are safe, reliable, efficient and sustainable. From the simplest of switches to complex operational systems, its technology, software and services improve the way its customers manage and automate their operations in the Group’s key markets: buildings, industries, data centers and infrastructures. Schneider Electric has recently entered into a collaboration with the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology-Massachusetts Institute of Technology (HKUST-MIT) Research Alliance Consortium to advance IoT solutions and adoption.

Mr Tricoire is among Nobel Prize winners, corporate leaders, entrepreneurs and key financial policy shapers invited to speak in the Distinguished Speakers Series that marks HKUST’s 25th anniversary. The next speaker is Mr Wang Shi, Founder and Chairman of leading property developer China Vanke, who will give talk on October 23, 2015. Other confirmed speakers include Prof Dan Shechtman, Nobel Laureate in Chemistry in 2011, Dr Raghuram Govind Rajan, Governor of the Reserve Bank of India and Mr Pinky Lai, Founder and Design Director of Brainchild Design Group and Brainchild Design Consultants. More talks are also being lined up.
