Civil Engineering Students Won Championship in International Earthquake Engineering Competition

The HKUST civil engineering undergraduate team has won the First Prize of the Undergraduate Division and the postgraduate team has won the Second Prize and Best Presentation Award (Third Prize) of the Postgraduate Division in the Introducing and Demonstrating Earthquake Engineering Research in Schools (IDEERS) competition, held at the National Center for Research on Earthquake Engineering, Taipei, Taiwan during 18-20 September 2015. This is the first time that HKUST civil engineering undergraduate team won this Championship.

This international earthquake engineering competition was jointly organized by the National Applied Research Laboratories and the National Center for Research on Earthquake Engineering (NCREE) of Taiwan, and the British Council. Forty-two undergraduate and 16 postgraduate teams from different countries and regions participated, which included the University of Tokyo, National University of Singapore, National University of Taiwan, etc. The members of the HKUST civil engineering undergraduate team include Siu Kwan Choi, Ho Fai Chung, Po Hon Wong, and Chi Fai Yuen, and the postgraduate team includes Chunyang Du, Yang Liu, Cheng Ning Loong, and Nan Zhang.
