The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) School of Engineering and American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK), United Arab Emirates have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, which aims to stimulate and support educational intercultural activities and projects between the two institutions. 

Under the MOU, AURAK and HKUST agree to explore the possibility of collaborative endeavors in the areas of student exchange, faculty exchange, research collaboration and sabbatical opportunities.

Founded in 2009, AURAK is an independent co-education institution of higher education that provides an integrated American-style, undergraduate and graduate education with a strong focus on local indigenous culture. The university offers students of the United Arab Emirates and the greater geographic region from Pakistan and India in the East to the nations of Africa top quality higher education in a top of the Emirates location. Its School of Engineering has degree programs in electronic and computer engineering, and is expanding its focus to computer science, civil and infrastructure engineering, and mechanical and industrial engineering.

The Memorandum was signed by Prof Khaled Ben Letaief, HKUST Dean of Engineering, and Prof Hassan Al Alkim, AURAK Vice Chancellor.

The Memorandum marks a significant first step in establishing a relationship between two universities and highlights both parties’ commitment to promote educational and scientific cooperation through international collaboration.
