Engineering Faculty Elected as Fellows of IET and OSA

Body

Prof Ross Murch, Head and Chair Professor of the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering, has been elected Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

The IET is a world leading professional organisation sharing and advancing knowledge to promote science, engineering and technology across the world. It has more than 150,000 members worldwide in 127 countries. The fellowship is bestowed for individuals who have demonstrated sustained achievements in their profession.

Prof Murch is also an IEEE fellow. His research interests include Wireless Communications with a focus on novel Multiple Input Multiple output (MIMO) Wireless Systems, Compact MIMO Antenna design, Cognitive Radio, Cooperative Wireless systems, WLAN and LTE-Advanced.

Prof Jianan Qu, Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering, has been elected as Fellow of the Optical Society of America (OSA) for pioneering contributions to the development of label-free noninvasive spectroscopy and imaging technology for life science research and medical diagnosis.

The Optical Society brings together optics and photonics scientists, engineers, educators, and business leaders. It promotes the generation, application and archiving of knowledge in optics and photonics. Over the course of OSA's nearly one hundred year history, 31 members have been awarded a Nobel Prize in Physics, Chemistry or Physiology/Medicine. OSA's membership totals more than 17,000 individuals from over 100 countries and approximately 52 percent of the Society's members reside outside the United States. The OSA Fellow is awarded to elected OSA Members who have made significant contributions to the advancement of optics and photonics. OSA elevates about 65 members to rank of fellow each year.
