Latest World University Ranking: HKUST Engineering Ranks No. 1 in Greater China and among the World’s Best

According to the just released (2011) prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings in Engineering and Technology, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has continued to shine and has landed the No. 1 spot in Greater China. The exceptional achievements and impact of HKUST Engineering School has been very widely recognized by not only the respected THE Rankings but also all other prestigious worldwide university rankings, including QS and ARWU. HKUST Engineering has been consistently ranked within the top 30 in the world in Engineering.

Ranked 28th globally in Engineering and Technology, HKUST is ahead of Tsinghua University (31st), University of California, Davis (32nd), University of Hong Kong (37th), Purdue University (39th) and McGill University (47th). The top 3 universities are California Institute of Technology, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Princeton University, respectively.

HKUST is one of the only two universities from Hong Kong ranked among the top 50 in the world in Engineering. Last month, HKUST Engineering has consolidated its ascent and was ranked No. 1 in Hong Kong and No. 22 globally in Engineering and Technology by QS World University Rankings 2011.

“Over the last 20 years, HKUST Engineering faculty and students have joined hands and minds making outstanding and significant contributions in Hong Kong and globally,” said Professor Khaled Ben Letaief, Dean of HKUST’s Engineering School. “We shall strive toward making even greater local and global impact with our first-rate research and education.”

The THE rankings were based on 13 performance indicators which were grouped under 5 categories: teaching (30%), research (30%), citations (30%), industry income (2.5%) and international outlook (7.5%).
