HKUST Continues to Thrive in 2011 QS World University Rankings in Engineering & Technology Subjects
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) School of Engineering continues to achieve top tier standing in global rankings. According to the 2011 QS World University Rankings in Engineering and Technology subjects, HKUST was ranked No. 1 in Greater China in Computer Science & Information Systems and No. 1 in Hong Kong in Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing.
This is the first time QS published subject rankings. A total of 5 subject rankings in engineering and technology have been released. For instance, in Computer Science & Information Systems, HKUST was placed 26th, ahead of Purdue University (29th), The University of Tokyo (35th) and Tsinghua University (43rd). This QS ranking is also in line with our Computer Science and Engineering Department being ranked 26th in the world and 1st in Greater China by the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) of Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2010.
Also ranked high was the Electronic and Computer Engineering Department which was placed 28th in the world, ahead of the University of British Columbia (30th), Purdue University (32nd), and Tsinghua University (40th).
In addition to the abovementioned subject rankings, HKUST was highly ranked in other subjects: 42nd in Civil & Structural Engineering, ahead of University of Bristol (47th) and Texas A&M University (51-100th); 44th in Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing, ahead of Korean Advanced Institute of Science & Technology (KAIST) (49th) and University of Wisconsin-Madison (51-100th); and finally 51-100th in Chemical Engineering.
Ranking indicators include academic reputation, employer reputation and citations. The high rankings of the HKUST Engineering Departments are attributed to our world-class faculty, high-impact research, outstanding students, and the state-of-the-art facilities.
