Three teams of students from Electronic & Computer Engineering and Computer Engineering have entered the final in the Pan-Pearl River Delta Region Amway University IT Project Competition (Hong Kong Region) on 6 June 2010, from a total of 30 teams from local universities. They are:

Project: Braille Embosser
Students: Patrick LEE Kwan Pak, Matthew TING Kin Man and KWAN Siu Hung
Supervisor: Prof. Tim WOO

Project: Vehicle Tracking Systems
Students: Jason LAI Ying Man and Jason SUN Chak Fong
Supervisor: Prof. Albert WONG

Project: A Middleware to integrate RFID system into Manufacturing Industry
Students: Dennis WONG Yu Cheong (CPEG), Mike CHEUNG Ying Mo (CPEG)
Supervisor: Prof. Dit-Yan YEUNG

Among the 11 finalist teams in the Hong Kong Region, the "Braille Embosser" team won Second Runner-up, and they represented Hong Kong in the final round of the competition, which was held in the Southwest University for Nationalities in Sichuan Province on 26-27 June.

In this 2-day competition, out of 51 teams from the nine provinces in the Pan-Pearl River Delta region, Macao and , the "Braille Embosser" team won Gold Award and The Most Innovative Award. A total of 6 Gold Awards were presented, and 3 of the winning teams were from universities in Hong Kong.

Co-organized by the Sichuan Computer Federation (四川省計算機學會) and the Junior Committee of Internet Professional Association (iProA), the competition aims to recognize the academic achievements of the information and communications technology students in the Pan-Pearl River Delta region. Through participation in this event, the following goals are to be achieved:

  • Encourage academic exchange, fellowship establishment and collective improvement
  • Promote internal and external collaboration between Hong Kong and the Pan-PRD region
  • Bridge market needs with computer applications
  • Cater to society’s need on computer talents
