Center for Industry Engagement & Internship
Established in 2012 under HKUST School of Engineering (SENG), IEI serves as the official interface between the industry and the School. IEI’s primary goal is to cultivate SENG students' early exposure to professional work experience. IEI assists companies in recruiting for internships and full-time positions. Through internships, IEI facilitates SENG students to identify their passion and interest in career choices and to help them build up their career path early while still in university.

Students' Experience
Natalyn (Civil Engineering) at Kum Shing (K.F.) Construction Co., Ltd.
As student interns, we were provided with a comprehensive training program at Kum Shing. This included an opening ceremony where we heard from the CEO, senior management, and alumni, who introduced the company and engaged us in dialogue. We also underwent new staff orientation across different departments and participated in industry-leading seminars and workshops, such as a Digital Twin Awareness Seminar/ BIM Workshop held by CIC, and an Innovation TED Talk by the KS Group Innovation Accelerator.
Taha (Mechanical Engineering) at The Hong Kong and China Gas Company
During my one-year internship, I had the chance to learn a great deal. I communicated and negotiated with various stakeholders, both within and outside the company, almost every day. In the past, preparing for meetings and presentations took me considerable time, but this internship allowed me to express myself with greater confidence and efficiency, thanks to my supportive team.
Sam (Aerospace Engineering) at Hong Kong Express Airways
I would describe my internship experience fruitful. I had opportunities to know many people besides my team, not only across departments, but also reaching the CEO and COO. And this is how my personal network builds. I believe that working in this society is never just about own ability, industrial connection is another key to success.
Newton (Decision Analytics & A.I.) at Cathay Pacific Airways
My internship was fun and engaging. As a student, we have the chance in contributing to big projects, making a meaningful impact towards business and society. The internship was not only about earning pocket money, but it also helps our career and personal development in many ways.
Bonzi (Computer Science) at China CITIC Bank International
I have always dreamed of becoming a banker in the future since it is so meaningful to apply different technological innovations to the financial sector to make it more inclusive and productive. The internship experience I had with China CITIC Bank Limited was extremely rewarding, as it provided me with loads of in-depth and hands-on knowledge in the financial sector. It better prepared me to enter the banking industry after graduation.
Daisy (Computer Engineering) at Avnet Technology Ltd
Facing different challenges helped me grow personally, boosting my confidence and resilience. This internship also clarified my career goals, guiding me toward a future in user experience design. I developed important skills in teamwork, communication, and problem-solving that will help me in my career. Overall, this experience has been life-changing and has built a strong foundation for my professional path.
Shingo (Electronic Engineering) at MTR
I am a student from the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering with an interest in signal processing and communication. I joined the summer internship program of MTR Corporation last year and was rewarded with the experience to witness how a huge signal system works! During the internship, I was able to work with different kinds of signaling equipment and servers. I hope I can become one of the employees after graduation.
