Outbound Exchange

The School of Engineering strongly encourages its undergraduates to participate in exchange, which equips them with a global perspective and cultural exposure that greatly enhances their undergraduate education and facilitates their career development.

Exchange opportunities are available to students during the regular term in Fall and Spring, while programs of shorter duration are run during the Summer Term. For regular term exchanges, students can choose to study overseas or with one of the key universities in Mainland China.

CHEUNG Yat Sum (CIVL) at University of Sussex

It is the famous Royal Pavilion of Brighton. Its construction marks the prosper and development of Brighton. Also, it is beautiful.
It is Lewes Castle. It has stood for 1000 years and mostly intacted. It is not a famous castle but still decent.
Holding a blunt sword and shield. I randomly met a group of medieval local reenacting medieval fighting and cosmetic. One of them kindly explain what they are doing to me and even allow me to hold his equipment. It is a memorable moment.

DELA CRUZ, Aragorn Joaquin Pineda (COMP) at ETH Zurich

A view of the beautiful Swiss Alps and the surrounding landscape. Switzerland is famed for their snowy mountains and skiing or snowboarding is something almost every Swiss person learns from a young age.
A photo of me with a statue I found while hiking the most popular mountain in Zürich, Uetliberg. It is a popular hiking spot for most local people in Zürich, and the statue is unidentified but told to me that it is likely an homage to the indigenous people of the mountains before.
The classic, national dish, cheese fondue. Typically eaten with bread, potatoes or meats, the cheese(s) are melted with white wine and served on a special pot, called caquelon.

LAI Nok Ching (DA) at Technical University of Denmark

Strøget is more than just Copenhagen's main shopping street and Europe's longest pedestrian street but the combination of the welcomingly friendly Danish, the exquisitely vintage buildings and the local branded products.
A candle is a key element to create “hygge” as it makes the atmosphere intimate and cozy instantly.
Making smart decisions is to extend hygge from this half-hour of shopping to the half-year of exchange and to the rest of my life.

My friend Ferris and I were taking a selfie in the prom, and someone took a picture of us. I loved this picture because as a new member of the GTIA, Ferris helped me a lot in catching up and we had a great time together.

This is me standing in front of the Alnwick Castle, which is an over 1000 years-old castle. Also, It has been used as a set in many of the Harry Potter films.

This is me beside the decorations of Ramadan Bazaar. I was trying to imitate an advertisement I saw on the train and thought it showed how excited I was to be attending such an event in person.
This is a picture of the decorations from a view of a footbridge. I took this picture because looking at the decorations at road level does not do justice to the beauty of the decorations. Looking at them from this angle reminds me of clouds when looking out the window from a plane, which is mesmerising to me.
This picture shows one of the bazaars and the accompanying decorations. I took it because it shows the extent of effort placed into hosting it and how the environment is in unison with the festival.

SRIRAM Shriya (DA) at KTH Royal Institute of Technology

One of the events organized by THS MAIN is there weekly boardgames evenings. This photograph was taken at the very first one they held face-to-face this semester. It was special because I got a chance to meet new people and it was such a good bonding experience that we (our table in this photo) met frequently throughout the semester and even had our own mini boardgames evening once because one of them could not make it during the week! Another surprising thing here is one of them in the photo is also from H
A tradition in a lot of technical universities in this part of the world is to collect unique patches from various Chapters (university major groups) to add to each individual’s collection. Once a year, the event Valborgspubrundan takes place and coincidentally happened to be during my time at KTH. It is the best opportunity to collect patches and I was lucky to take part in it with three other people I met through THS MAIN. We represented MAIN that day. Through this event, I also got to visit the other KTH
This is a photograph of some of the THS MAIN members taken during one of our teambuilding events, an Osqvik! Osqviks are very traditional KTH, it is a both an activity and the name of a cabin owned by the student union. As an activity, people go there to eat and enjoy the company of others, go for dips at the lake (even when frozen) and run to the sauna after to relax. This photo reminds me of all the wonderful people I worked with during my time with THS MAIN and the wonderful memories created with them.

It shows a frisbee flying in the sky of NUS Utown town green.
It was taken during frisbee training when the frisbee profession taught us how to play frisbee. It is a memorable photo to document my frisbee learning process.
It is me when I was playing frisbee. The picture describes a time I played frisbee with my friends and it also shows vitality and my passion to this sport.

YIN Junyu (CIVL) at Technical University of Denmark

I went to shopping in Meny supermarket on a sunny day, together with two bags of groceries for my coming week.
The front door of the Norwegian discount supermarket, Rema1000. Unlike Hong Kong’s supermarkets, the gorgeous picture with attractive flowers sold and lovely dogs tied always refreshes your mind before shopping in the store.
Cashier of the Danish supermarket, Netto. An old man queuing ahead of me once told me that it is Denmark’s neighbor, German’s idea to use a stand to separate the goods between customers.
