Prof. Charles NG Received “2025 Telford Gold Medal – First Overall” by the Institution of Civil Engineers

HKUST Vice-President for Institutional Advancement Prof. Charles NG, CLP Holdings Professor of Sustainability and Chair Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, was awarded the 2025 Telford Gold Medal – first overall by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE). The honor recognizes the overall best paper across all ICE journals in the past year.

The award-winning paper, titled “Effects of Solid Fraction of Saturated Granular Flows on Overflow and Landing Mechanisms of Rigid Barriers” was published in Géotechnique in January 2024. It was co-authored by Prof. Ng’s former PhD students Dr. Usman MAJEED and Prof. Clareance CHOI. The award was presented at the ICE Awards Ceremony, which took place at ICE’s headquarters in London on July 3, 2025.
