The School of Engineering’s Experiential Learning Day on May 8, 2025, saw undergraduates showcasing their creativity and innovation in self-initiated experiential learning projects, with three outstanding projects emerging as winners of the USEL-ASMPT Technology Award.

The event featured presentations from participating teams, along with a week-long Poster Fair at the Academic Concourse, held from April 30 to May 8. After rigorous judging, the three winning teams were announced as follows:

Gold Award
Project title: Smart Shin Pads
Team members: Struan Gerard DSOUZA (BEng in Electronic Engineering) and Kushaj DWIVEDI (Dual Degree Program in Technology & Management)
Supervisor: Prof. ZHANG Jun (Electronic and Computer Engineering)

Silver Award
Project title
: Aerial-Ground Based Robotic System with 6DOF Robotic Arm for General Outdoor Applications
Team members: CHAN Chi-Kit (BSc in Physics), LU Yan and Bryce CHAN King-Chung (both BSc in Integrative Systems and Design)

Project title: Development of an eVTOL Aircraft for Middle Range Missions in Urban Area

Established in 2018 with a donation from ASMPT, the USEL-ASMPT Technology Award recognizes undergraduate students for their excellent projects in the Undergraduate Student-initiated Experiential Learning (USEL) Program. The award unleashes students’ potential in design and engineering regardless of their major and encourages them to develop their own project ideas that demonstrate creativity, innovation and practicability.
