HKUST Engineering Ranks No.1 in Hong Kong for 15 Years
In the newly released QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025, HKUST has continued to be rated No.1 in Hong Kong in the broad subject area of Engineering and Technology. The University has made an impressive leap of nine places to No.43 globally and held its top place in this broad subject area locally for 15 consecutive years.
Among the six individual subjects for which HKUST is rated in this broad subject area, the University has either seen a rise or maintained its position from last year in nearly all subjects. The University has also retained its No.1 position in Hong Kong for three individual subjects.
The rankings for HKUST in the individual subjects of engineering and technology are as follows: Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (No.17 globally, No.1 in Hong Kong), Civil and Structural Engineering (No.19 globally), Computer Science and Information Systems (No.24 globally), Electrical and Electronic Engineering (No.29 globally, No.1 in Hong Kong), Mechanical, Aeronautical and Manufacturing Engineering (No.42 globally, No.1 in Hong Kong), and Chemical Engineering (No.70 globally). In Statistics and Operational Research, an individual subject under the broad area of Social Science and Management, HKUST has leaped 17 places to No.26.
The 2025 edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject features 55 individual subjects across five broad subject areas. The rankings were determined by five indicators, namely academic reputation, employer reputation, research citations per paper, h-index, and international research network.
