Project by HKUST-MTR Joint Research Laboratory Won Winner Award and Second Runner-Up Award at APICTA Awards 2024
The public transport ridership simulation project developed by the HKUST-MTR Joint Research Laboratory has garnered further recognition by securing the Winner Award in Business Data Analytics category and the Second Runner-up Award in Industrial category – Transport at the Asia Pacific Information and Communications Technology Alliance (APICTA) Awards 2024, following its achievements in securing four awards, including the highest honor – the Award of the Year – at the Hong Kong ICT Awards 2024 last month.
Led by Dean of Engineering Prof. Hong K. Lo, also Director of Great Smart Cities Institute and Chair Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, the project utilized artificial intelligence and big data to simulate and predict changes in Hong Kong citizens’ travel patterns under various scenarios, thereby assisting the operations team of MTR in implementing appropriate operational plans.
The annual APICTA Awards program serves as a platform for information and communications technology (ICT) talents from the 15 participating economies across the Asia-Pacific region to exchange innovative ideas and forge partnership. The 2024 edition was held in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei from December 4 to 7.
