A team of four undergraduate students who were enrolled in COMP 4633 Competitive Programming in Cybersecurity III became the champion among all Hong Kong and Macau teams in the Pengcheng Cup (鵬城杯) Capture the Flag (CTF) Contest 2023.

Led by the course’s instructor Dr. Alex LAM, the champion team, named “Turkey”, comprised CHAN Lok-Hin (BEng in Computer Engineering), ZHANG Zidi (BEng in Computer Science), CHENG Ho-Yin (BEng in Computer Science), and TSOI Ka-Wong (BSc in Data Science and Technology). They are all members of the Computer Science and Engineering Department’s Firebird CTF Team.

Organized by Pengcheng Laboratory from Shenzhen, the 2023 contest attracted close to 600 top cybersecurity teams to engage in jeopardy-style CTF challenges across more than 20 industry-specific cybersecurity scenarios. Through immersing themselves in these diverse scenarios, participants were able to expand their understanding and skills in network security strategies and digitalization processes.
