I have always been a person who likes drilling deep down into things and finding out how they work, how the underlying principles all come together. This made me find interest in math and science subjects when I was in high school, and luckily, it did not take me long to realise my passion for engineering.
When I got into HKUST Engineering, I realised engineering was more than what I thought of.
It was not just about learning how to fix things, or solving practise questions behind that bulky textbook. It was about coming up with innovative solutions to solve real world problems, and applying what we’ve learnt to create things that could make an impact on our lives. To me, I see engineers as problem solvers and the ‘creators’ of society, and I certainly want to be one of them.
After exploring different fields of engineering in my first year, I found myself particularly interested in Computer Science. Studying CS allows us to be creative and build different cool applications that we wish to, and most importantly, learning how to think logically and approach a problem that we are going to solve.
To me, university isn’t just about acing your examinations and getting good grades; it is more of finding out your passion -- what are you most interested in and what excites you the most. With the opportunities and projects from HKUST SENG, learning is not limited to only what is in the textbook, but hands-on experience which could sharpen your technical skills and broaden your horizons in the world of engineering.
