When I was 14, my school teacher introduced me to MIT App Inventor, a platform that allows me to drag and drop visual objects to create a mobile app. I built my first android application and I instantly realised that I fell in love with coding. Therefore, as a secondary school student back then, all I wish is to get a seat in a university to pursue my interest in studying programming-related subjects. With this passion, I put the best Engineering school in Hong Kong, the HKUST School of Engineering, as my first priority in JUPAS.
Studying at the HKUST School of Engineering have broadened my horizons. In HKUST, I have met countless like-minded people who share the same passion and interest. We joined different competitions and worked together to build projects that solve problems in real life and positively contribute to society. Words cannot describe how proud we are when we can successfully release those products, showcase them to other people and say, “We built that thing.” Moreover, studying Computer Science not only equips me with the professional skill sets that are crucial for my future career, but also enables me to develop my problem-solving skills. After graduation, I will encounter different problems or difficulties in my life without doubt, probably even tougher than the ones I faced during my degree. But with these problem-solving skills, I now have the confidence to deal with any kind of problem, no matter how big it is.
Apart from academics, I like how HKUST provides us with different opportunities to develop our soft skills. Therefore, being an Engineering Student Ambassador, I hope I can contribute to HKUST by sharing my personal experiences with different people and helping them to discover their passion.
