InnoHK Research Clusters Initiative

Body

Two cutting-edge research centers, led by School of Engineering faculty, received large-scale funding from the InnoHK Research Clusters scheme. InnoHK is a major Hong Kong government initiative to turn the city into a hub for global research collaboration.

Prof. Tim CHENG Kwang-Ting, Dean of Engineering and Chair Professor of Electronic & Computer Engineering and Computer Science & Engineering, led the founding of the AI Chip Center for Emerging Smart Systems, in which five world-renowned universities are participating. The multidisciplinary center aims to advance IC design to help realize ubiquitous AI applications in society.

Prof. LI Zexiang, Professor of Electronic and Computer Engineering, has set up the Hong Kong Center for Construction Robotics as a joint collaborative effort between HKUST, the University of California, Berkeley, and Tsinghua University. Its mission is to deliver robotics, AI, and other advanced technologies that can bring transformative change to the construction industry.
